Hunterdon Hills Animal Hospital
SERVICES: General Contracting
ARCHITECT: Silberstang Lasky Architects
Sweetwater completed this ground-up animal hospital in a nostalgic “milk barn” style. The 8,600 sf facility design includes dog, cat and goat wards, 5 exam rooms, surgical, treatment, dental, pharmacy, lab, isolation, and ICU recovery areas in the pre-fab main building. A reclaimed 19th-century Pennsylvanian barn serves as the reception and waiting area. The silo contains a library and conference area. Open design and construction in the treatment and surgical areas provides for high visual and soundproofing for the comfort of people and animals.

Sweetwater completed this state-of-the-art facility to include 4 surgery suites and MRI, CT Scan, PT with underwater treadmill, radiology treatment and quarantine areas. ICU and Recovery areas have radiant heat flooring and heated cages. The 2-story building, on the site of a former farm, has dog and cat wards and unusual features to include an outdoor dog-walking portico, multi-media conference room, and interior medical observation from the second floor. The common areas have high bay windows and skylights to bring in natural light. The structure is steel and wood frame with a HardiePlank exterior.
Elements of an old farmhouse, including hand-hewn beams and brick walls, are incorporated into the new structure, which means the farmhouse was carefully dismantled rather than simply knocked down.
This project features a geothermal energy system.
